The English School of Uzbekistan aims to deliver high quality education that promotes cultural and personal values. ESU creates a learning environment where the strengths of every child are identified, nurtured and celebrated.
ESU students are life-long learners, who are internationally-minded, principled and balanced thinkers, curious about the world around them, prepared to be Uzbekistan’s future change-makers.
The English School of Uzbekistan (ESU) was established in Tashkent in 2024. It is a sister school to The English School of Mongolia (ESM) in Ulaanbaatar which has been running since 2011 and now has over 1,200 students enrolled. ESU is backed by Singapore-based English Education International (EEI).
The school was founded by a team of highly-experienced leaders, teachers and administrators from ESM combining with a carefully selected team of local Uzbek staff with the ambition to become an excellent educational institution recognised by BSO, delivering the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme, brining the unique opportunity for children in Tashkent to flourish through internationally-minded British-style education in English.
Our first school building, in Yunusabad district of Tashkent, was purpose-designed with consultation from the EEI team to be a warm, friendly learning environment for up to 300 students.
At ESU Primary School, our commitment to the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) is reflected in our core values. These values guide our educational approach and shape the development of our students into globally-minded, compassionate, and inquisitive learners. They are integral to fostering an environment where students grow as caring and active participants in a lifelong journey of learning.
Inquirers
We cultivate a sense of curiosity in our students, encouraging them to ask questions, explore, and actively engage with the world around them. Our students develop strong research skills and a love for learning that extends beyond the classroom, enabling them to become independent inquirers.
Knowledgeable
At ESU, we ensure our students gain a deep understanding of a broad range of disciplines. They are encouraged to explore global concepts and ideas, connecting them to local and personal contexts, which helps them to develop a well-rounded perspective and become knowledgeable about the world.
Thinkers
Critical thinking is central to our curriculum. We encourage our students to approach challenges with creativity and reasoned analysis, making ethical decisions that reflect their understanding of complex issues. This develops their ability to think independently and collaboratively.
Communicators
Effective communication is a key skill in our interconnected world. We teach our students to express themselves confidently in multiple languages and through various modes of communication. They learn to listen thoughtfully and engage in respectful dialogue, ensuring their voices contribute meaningfully to global conversations.
Principled
Integrity and fairness are at the heart of our community. Our students learn to act with honesty and respect, taking responsibility for their actions. By embracing these principles, they grow into principled individuals who are committed to making ethical choices in their lives.
Open-Minded
We foster an appreciation for diverse perspectives and cultures, encouraging our students to be open-minded and empathetic. By understanding and respecting different viewpoints, they learn to approach the world with a broader perspective and a sense of shared humanity.
Caring
Caring for others and the world around us is a fundamental value at ESU. We teach our students the importance of empathy, compassion, and kindness, encouraging them to act in ways that positively impact their communities and the environment.
Risk-Takers
We encourage our students to embrace new challenges and opportunities with confidence and determination. By stepping outside their comfort zones and taking calculated risks, they learn to adapt to change and overcome obstacles, growing into resilient and courageous individuals.
Balanced
At ESU, we believe in nurturing the whole child. We encourage our students to find balance in their intellectual, physical, and emotional well-being, helping them to achieve personal harmony and a sustainable lifestyle.
Reflective
Self-reflection is a crucial part of the learning process. We teach our students to thoughtfully consider their experiences, strengths, and areas for improvement. This reflective practice helps them to grow continuously and to set meaningful goals for their personal and academic journeys.
These IB PYP core values are embedded in every aspect of life at ESU Primary School. They guide our mission to develop compassionate, knowledgeable, and reflective young people who are prepared to contribute positively to the world as active and caring global citizens.
